Philippine Mango (Mangga)

Image
Mangga  is the Tagalog word for ‘mango. What is the first thing that comes in your mind when you hear the word “Mango”? If you will ask me that question, the first thing that I think of is the Philippines. In my opinion, I can say, without any doubt, that the best mangoes that the world has ever tasted came from the Philippines. The most common variety of mango in the Philippines is what Americans refer to as champagne mango. It’s been called Manila mango, Ataulfo mango (named after its Mexican grower) and Honey mango.  Filipinos call it  manggang kalabaw  (carabao mango) while the Philippine government refers to it as ‘Manila Super Mango’ and is reportedly in the Guinness Book of World Records as the sweetest in the world. Other popular mango varieties in the Philippines are Pico (Piko), Katchamita (Indian) and Pahutan ( Mangifera altissima ). The Manila mango is more slender than the large mango varieties such as the Tommy Atkins or Kent with which A...

How to re-grow organic celery from home

Image
How to re-grow organic celery from home I've recently came across this idea on both Facebook and  Pinterest , so I had to learn and try it myself. - Who knew that celery proliferation was all the rage? Instead of tossing the base, rinse it off and place it in a clear glass jar so you can see the roots re-growing or bowl of warm water for a week or so until new leaves appear in the center. The leaves will be yellow at first, and once they really emerge and turn green, you can plant the celery in the ground or in a pot. Change out the water every couple of days while in the re-growing jars, or bowls or you can used a spray bottle to spray water directly onto the base of the celery where the leaves were growing out. Re-grow Organic Celery from Home After the 5 to 7 days is completed, transferred the celery base to a planter and covered it completely save for the leaf tips with a mixture of dirt and potting soil. Watered it generously and after planting in ...

Best of Ski Jackets

Image
A ski jacket covers the arms and torso. It can be a separate item or part of a ski suit together with matching silhouettes. From the introduction of ski jackets in the middle to late 1950’s through the early 1980’s, the dominant style was for a ski jacket to resemble a safari jacket in having a similar belt and shirt -like collar. A similar garment, especially one with a hoody , may be called a parka, anorak, down jacket or winter shell. Owning a good ski jacket is a must when on the slopes. The jacket needs to keep the owner warm and protect from all weather conditions, whilst not being overly weighty. There are 3 main things to consider when buying a jacket: Warmth - Always ask will my jacket keep me warm? In bitterly cold conditions, the last thing you want to be worrying about is the fact that you can't feel your arms. Breathability - As much as being warm is good, you do not want to overheat. Make sure your jacket can breathe, so that you do not overheat and sw...

2012 Tour route - Tour de France

Image
A route for the 2012 Tour de France has appeared briefly online a week ahead of the official unveiling. The details, which have not been legitimate, would appear to favour the chances of cyclists like Britain's Bradley Wiggins, with considerably less mountain stages and two individual time trials as well as a prologue. The Amuary Sports Organisation, who organise the tour, neither confirmed nor denied whether the route which appeared online was correct. "I can't tell you anything about this. We are fixing it now internally. The only person who could comment on it would be (race director) Christian Prudhomme himself," Claude Rasch told Cyclingnews. But with brief details of each stage appearing to fit some of the rumours circulating about the route, many have taken it as genuine. Wiggins' ability on mountain stages is not thought of as highly as the likes of current champion Cadel Evans, previous winner Alberto Contador, or the Schleck brothers. His 2011 Tour ende...
